Camp Blaze Summer Camp!

Great Beginnings Learning Center

Our Summer Program is full of fresh air, friends & of course, fun!

Great Beginnings Learning Center invites you to join us for our fun-filled, adventure packed summer program! Children enrolled in our program will develop skills, form friendships, and discover hobbies that will enrich their lives for years to come.

Weekly themes are a part of our program and introduce the campers to the world and its many wonders throughout the summer. The campers enrolled in Camp Blaze will experience many special events in the center as well as both recreational and educational excursions inside and outside of the building in small group sizes.

Registration Deadlines
We anticipate that registration will fill up quickly, so register early to reserve your space. Registration is on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. Registration closes Wednesday May 20th.

Hours of Operation
Great Beginnings opens at 6:30am and closes at 6:00pm. Please see the calendar to be aware of when we will be departing and returning on field trip days. No child may be dropped off at, or picked up from, a field trip site.

This rule is for both the safety of the children as well as the ease of transport. Parents may transport their child for fieldtrips only if they are volunteering for that particular event.

          5 days a week$170.00
          4 days a week$137.00
          3 days a week$112.00
          2 days a week$92.00
1 day a week or drop in care$65.00

Registration Fee

There is a onetime fee of $150.00 due at the time of registration. This fee covers the admission for fieldtrips, the costs of staffing and transportation, as well as the materials used to help make this summer fun and memorable for your child.

Q. If my child does not attend a field trip, will I be reimbursed?

A. The activity fee covers all fees for the entire summer for all summer campers. Many times, we have paid in advance, and do not know until a day or week before, after we have paid, that your child is not going to attend and we cannot get our fees back.

Q. What do you do with extra money that you accumulate from children not attending certain activities?

A. Any money left over at the end of the summer is put into parties and additional field trips for the children. All money is put towards your child’s summer enjoyment.

Let's look in the Random Acts of Kindness Jar!

Sunny summer smiles!

Positive Discipline Procedures
The staff at Camp Blaze will utilize positive discipline strategies when dealing with difficult behaviors.

The “X” system is the current discipline system in the School Age classroom that will carry through to the summer. If a child receives three warnings for a particular unwanted behavior they will receive an “X” on the whiteboard next to their name for that day.

Receiving an “X” takes away the child’s opportunity to collect a prize at the end of the week. If three “X”s are given in one week, the child will be required to write a letter home explaining why it was they obtained 3 “X”s and what they will do to correct their behavior. If no “X”s are given, then the child will be able to draw from the prize box at the end of the week.

This summer we will also be introducing the Random Acts of Kindness Jar. Campers will receive a token for good behavior as well as going above and beyond. When the jar is full, the whole group will vote on a reward such as a pizza party or electronics day.

The staff also reserves the right to have a camper remain at the center during field trips, if the behavior of that child would threaten their safety or the safety of others.

Field Trip Cancellation Policy

Great Beginnings reserves the right to cancel and reschedule any field trip or activity. Parents will be notified through a posting on the classroom bulletin board. Cancellations may be due to inclement weather, scheduling or transportation errors, or safety concerns.

Every Wednesday campers will take a walking trip to the local library. Campers will check out a book (to be left at the center) and return it the following week. This encourages children to remain active in reading and reach reading goals throughout the summer. At the end of the summer the library will be throwing Camp Blaze an ice cream sundae party, at Great Beginnings, as a reward for all of the reading they will be doing.

Campers are to wear closed toe tennis shoes every day as well as clothes that are appropriate for outdoor play.  During water weeks flip flops/ sandals are encouraged to be packed in backpacks for the times that campers are engaging in water activities. Water weeks are indicated on the calendar; during these days children must have a swimsuit, towel, and appropriate change of clothes.

The center will offer campers breakfast from 7:00am until 9:00am as well as a 3:00pm snack. Campers are to bring their own lunches with an ice pack.

Certain field trips or activities will require us to eat lunch outside of Great Beginnings. On these days we require campers to pack a 100% disposable sack lunch. Dates on which this is required are indicated on the calendar and staff will remind campers in the days leading up.

We welcome and appreciate parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for one or more of the field trips please see Karen or Sarah as soon as possible.

Transportation is provided for all field trips and is included in the registration fee. Children are not allowed to be picked up from, or dropped off at any location other than the center unless the parent is volunteering for that particular event.

We will be taking swimming trips this summer to the pool at the North Star Golf Course. Extra Great Beginnings staff will be provided that day and life guards will be on duty. The venue follows a schedule of appropriately timed rest periods.
